Join artist Jon Gomez in conversation with Curator of Living Collections and Research Botanist Raul Puente-Martinez, and Assistant Professor in fiber art Erika Hanson for an early morning ethnobotany workshop exploring flora of the Sonoran Desert. Participants will move through the landscape while discovering the many purposes of local vegetation as well as their cultural, historical, and contemporary significance to local peoples of the Sonoran Desert region.
Workshop leaders will engage with landscape through the lenses of art and science, with expertise ranging from Opuntia (prickly pear) systematics, natural dye plants, and desert migration patterns. An open exchange of dialog surrounding the rich intersections of plants, migration, and ecology will make this a lively, informative, and invaluable workshop you do not want to miss!

This workshop is part of a larger scale project of Gomez's regarding the effects migratory patterns have on the sustainability, landscape, and flora of the Sonoran Desert.
